Amber Winward was our June Guest Designer for WorldWin Papers. She created some great projects for you to peek at. This hand prints project was my personal favorite. I have hand prints of my children but I love this way of displaying them!  I certainly have added this to my summer project list.

Check out this project as well as the others that Amber created for us in the Guest Designer Gallery.

A Patriotic Greeting

When I was offered the opportunity to order a few stamps from Art Declassified, I was so excited.  There were so many fantastic choices, but there was one that quickly drew my eye and it was the USA stamp.  You see, I love the Fourth of July and all it stands for.  I love celebrating our country and our Freedom!  (seriously, the National Anthem makes me cry every single time I hear it!!!)    So, this USA stamp was a perfect stamp choice for me.

And as I began thinking about what I wanted to do for my blog education project, I knew with July 4th in a few days, I was going to use my Art Declassified stamp that I love so.  But, I wanted to do something a little different.  Something more than just paper and ink.  So, come learn how to stamp with bleach with me!

Cardstock for this project:

WorldWin Papers / Medium Berry Red / ColorMates

WorldWin Papers / Light Heritage White / ColorMates

WorldWin Papers / Dusk Blue / Treasures

For a complete supply list please view this card in the Cards Gallery.

First, cover your work area to protect it.   (and make sure your clothing is protected, too!)

Then, gather your supplies.  Grab the card stock you are going to stamp on.  I knew the WWP Dusk Blue Treasures would be perfect!!   (stamping with bleach is super fun with darker colors, although you can achieve similar results with lighter color papers, as well.  Experiment on different colors of card stock!)

Ok, you’ll need a plate, a few paper towels and bleach to make your “faux” stamp pad.  Take 3 paper towels and fold them into a “pad” and place it onto the plate.  (I recommend a paper plate, but I didn’t have one handy, so I used a plastic plate that I wouldn’t care if it got ruined.)   Anyway, you’ll want to carefully pour bleach onto the stamp pad you have made.  It needs to be wet, but not saturated.

When you are ready, take your card stock to be stamped on and place it on your covered surface.   Place your stamp on your “pad” and make sure all surfaces of the stamp are covered with bleach.  Then, very carefully transfer the stamp onto your card stock, gently rubbing to assure all surfaces are meeting with your card stock.  Then, carefully raise the stamp up.  You will immediately begin to see the wet bleach turning the paper lighter.  As the card stock dries, the bleach will continue to remove the color from the card stock.   (you can speed up the process using a heat gun, but be careful not to heat it too much.)

** Now, take a moment here and clean the bleach off your stamp.  Obviously, bleach can hurt your stamps if you don’t take a moment and clean them.  I’ve heard the bleach can “crack” the rubber, although I have never had this happen, since I immediately clean my stamps well.  I used a paper towel soaked with water to clean the bleach off.  Then, I “stamped” it on another clean, dry paper towel until it was dry.  Then, I followed this up with cleaning with my Stampin’ Up! stamp cleaner and stamp cleaning pad.  I just want to be sure mine is extra clean before I put it away.  And I recommend these extra steps to keep your stamps in tip top shape!! **

Next, cut your 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base from Medium Berry Red  ColorMates.   Then, trim the Dusk Blue USA block to 1 3/4″ x 4 7/8″.    Double mat this onto Light Heritage White ColorMates.  Then, triple mat with another layer of Dusk Blue Treasures, measuring 2 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.    Then, adhere entire block centered up and down onto the card base.

Next, add two Light Heritage White ColorMates card stock strips measuring 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ to the top and bottom of the USA block.

Lastly, punch out stars with the star punch out of Dusk Blue Treasures.  Adhere these randomly above and below the USA block, overlapping on top of the white/red as you see fit.

Now, put this card in the mail to someone serving in the military to thank them for their service.  If you don’t know one, please send it to our own DT Member Kimber McGray’s husband, Capt. William McGray currently serving in Iraq.    Email Kimber for his address at KimberMcGray@gmail.com
